Servings 2 toasted sandwiches

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Pita Breads sliced in half and lightly toasted
  • 1 lb. Marinated and Grilled Chicken or Lamb shredded
  • ½ cup Pickles chopped
  • 1 Tomato thinly sliced
  • Garlic Sauce to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Place the pita bread slices in the skillet for about 30 seconds per side until lightly toasted.
  • Remove from heat and place on a plate or cutting board to assemble the toasties.
  • Divide the chicken or lamb evenly between both halves of pita breads and sprinkle with pickles, tomatoes, and garlic sauce as desired. 5. Fold each half of pita breads so they overlap slightly in the middle then press down gently with your fingers to secure them together like a sandwich/wrap shape around filling inside it.. 6 Heat up a clean skillet over medium heat then place each Shawarma Toastie onto the heated pan for about 3 minutes per side until golden browned and crispy at edges.* Serve hot!

Notes

Use beef instead of chicken/lamb – Swap out pickles for cucumbers – Replace garlic sauce with tahini sauce – Add shredded lettuce leaves or cabbage – Sprinkle feta cheese before folding

The dish can be eaten as a light snack or meal depending on your preference and dietary needs.
